Xbox One Review

Gamers can’t miss the Xbox One gracing the family room or game room. There’s no sleek design with optional colors. Instead, it is a giant black box that weighs about seven pounds. Its dimensions are:

  • Depth: 13.1 inches.
  • Width: 10.8 inches.
  • Height: 3.1 inches.

The left side of the surface is matte black rather than a trendy violet or lemon, and holds the slot-loading Blu-ray drive. The glossy black right half holds the touch-powered and extremely sensitive flat Xbox button.

The left side of control box has a pairing button for registered controllers and a USB port. The back panel includes the:

  • Power port
  • Kinect port
  • Optical audio port
  • USB ports (two)
  • HDMI input (from cable box)/output (Xbox to TV)
  • Ethernet port

Use the controller or Kinect voice control to stay away from the button as much as possible. You still stand the chance of triggering it when setting up a gamepad or changing a disc.

Gamers familiar with the Xbox 360 see few changes in the new controller. The analog sticks are the same distance from the ground and buttons haven’t moved. The changes are felt and heard when trying out the system.

. Grippy rubber material covers the analog sticks to keep thumbs from sliding off.

.New cross-shaped directional pad and shoulder buttons click as pressure is applied.

.Gamepad triggers are quiet and operate smoothly.

Kinect 2 is supposed to make Xbox One gaming easier and more fun. The best thing that can be said about Kinect is that it is optional. Designed to sit on top of, next to, or in front of the television, the black box with a camera lens has the following dimensions:

  • Length: 9.8 inches.
  • Width: 2.6 inches.
  • Height: 2.63 inches.

The Kinect cable is approximately 9.5 feet long.  Bulky and awkward, the unit lacks customer friendliness. There are several steps before Kinect is ready to use. Gamers must memorize the exact wording of voice commands. Blu-ray discs and other features can’t be used until an app is downloaded to permit it. As mentioned earlier, Kinect is optional and not necessary. The Xbox One offers popular games that encourage participation by old friends and new gamers.
